Idol Results 5-12-11

Nobody this season has more passion for their craft.
Nobody this season wanted it more.
Nobody this season worked harder for it.
Nobody this season needed it more than James.

Every week he was creative, innovative, artistic, and driven. Every week, he gave 110%, and left everything he had on that stage.

I was thinking yesterday morning that my favorite hasn't won American Idol since Season 1. I endured Clay's devastating loss in Season 2, then suffered through the eliminations of Vonzell Solomon, Scotty McIntyre, Adam Lambert, Casey James, and Crystal Bowersox. I'm not trying to re-write history. Clay's loss put me into a tailspin. But in some ways James' defeat has been worse. Because James wanted it more. And I wanted it for him.

It wasn't the most shocking elimination in Idol history. I think that prize still goes to Chris Daughtry, followed by Tamyra Gray and Pia Toscano. But it was absolutely the most emotional elimination. James Durbin was the heart and soul and breath of American Idol Season 10.

We can only hope at this point that James got enough exposure through the show that people will be competing for the chance to sign him, work with him, work for him. It was very obvious that Jimmy Iovine has been more than impressed. As has been the staff and crew at Idol.

After weeks of fretting and hand wringing, I was calm yesterday. I had turned it over. I was ready for whatever the results would be. But I honestly thought he would at least make Top 3. And I wanted that so much for him. Did I think he could beat Scotty? Unfortunately, no. But what I wanted for him even more than the title, was that hero's homecoming. Top 3 meant a visit home in style, limos, cheering crowds, hysteria. I wanted the kid who grew up being bullied and ridiculed to return to his hometown as the person everyone wanted to see and hear. The man of the moment.

Hopefully today is simply the beginning of a new chapter in the life of James Dubin -singer, musician, artist, dreamcatcher, believer.

Don't Stop Believin, James.

A Fan
